Maldives Election Watch
Throughout history the people of many nations, when given the freedom and the fair means to express it, have demanded democracy as their right to enable both individual enterprise and to hold public endeavour to account.
The 2008 Presidential elections provide the opportunity for the Maldives to reach a key point in its progress by allowing its people to freely choose the direction it should take.
This can only be achieved if those elections are seen by the people of the Maldives and those outside the country as free and fair.
We are concerned that attempts are being made by some elements within the country to run an election in such a way as to prevent it from passing the furndamental test of freedom and fairness. (More…)
